1: Aachen: Aachen was an ancient Roman Spa Town and the home to the court. No fewer than thirty Roman Emperors have been crowned in the city. At Christmas time, stalls are covered in pretty lights and offer all sorts of delightful produce, confectionary and Christmas gifts. 2. Amsterdam: Just about one of the easiest places on the continent to get to from the UK and one of the best Amsterdam is famed for its canals lined by wonderful architecture; its laid back and liberal atmosphere; and the quality of the nightlife. Get there by plane, train or automobile, you& are guaranteed a fab time. Amsterdam's perfect for a special party, short break or super weekend away. 3. And it's a relatively cheap trip - Budapest prices will make you want to go back again and again The night life is good, the local's friendly and the beer cheap. 8. Cologne: A classic European city trip, Cologne is big enough to be truly vibrant and cosmopolitan, but small enough to get to know properly on a short break or weekend. Cologne Cathedral is internationally famous and acts as the focus of a great city centre. 9. Dublin: Tours of the Guinness brewery and trips in the bay to try the famous prawns will set you up for a great night out in the pubs and clubs. Dublin has an atmosphere all of its own and gets under your skin. 10. Koh Samui: It is a fabulous island in the Gulf of Siam - long the favourite of independent travellers who want Thailand without the trash. It has perhaps the best climate in south-east Asia with sea breezes from the gulf keeping the heat and humidity down even in the hot season.
